A Thousand and One Nights
I have long been fascinated by Scheherazade as a woman who had to use all the tools at her disposal—her sexuality, her cunning, her mind, and above all her creative artistry—to survive and overcome the male power that sought to subdue her. I have returned to this theme many times. What better way to interpret the master storyteller than through the medium of a book? From this came my first large scale installation. Like Scheherazade, the superficial fragility of the paper is belied by the scale of the work and the power of the imagery.
