The Disasters of War
Goya’s Disasters of War series was possibly the first great antiwar statement in the history of art. Unfortunately the ensuing years have not rendered such a theme obsolete. Invoking an artist trope this triptych conveys abstract themes through the female figure, literally placing the weight of people’s suffering on the shoulders of women compassionate enough to express their grief and suffering while resilient enough to carry humanity forward.
